Opening Speaker: Tony Bingham ASTD CEO & President
Keynote Speaker: Jim Collins author of “Good to Great”
Good speaker, talked about the role of training in companies. Intermingled with video clips from CLO’s about strategic role of training.
Jim Collins, the author of the best selling books “Built to Last” and “Good to Great”. He was a very compelling speaker. He mixed in personal anecdotes with theories from his book. Talked about things “NOT TO DO” as opposed to a To-Do list.
Big Idea: Primary Focus should be to Attract, Retain, and Develop talent. Who, not What, and build cumulative momentum.
Another message was to…
Preserve CORE (values, focus) while Stimulating Progress
One of his parting thoughts was for us to ask ourselves, “What is your Question to Statement ratio?”
I have been eyeballing his book “Good to Great” for a while, and I’m definitely going to buy it now.
When the session ended, the marching band from the movie “Drum Line” who are from Atlanta, came out and did a brief performance, then marched out and lead the audience to the Expo floor. That was interesting if nothing else.
